The city of Stuttgart is one of the most biggest connected industrial areas in germany. It´s the city where great inventions come from e.g. the car.
Big employers like Daimler, Porsche or Bosch have their headquarters close to the city center which has the effect of an increasing urbanisation followed by diverse traffic issues. During the last few years the political pressure on the city has risen due to ecological reglementations from the EU. The increase of cars has led to environemental problems like CO² pollution and particular matters.
Stuttgart has a very unique topographical situation. The whole city core is surrounded by hills which traps the city in some kind of a bowl, the so called „Talkessel“. This bowl situation prevents the pollution of beeing transportated away naturally due to a lack of wind over a big part of the year.
Now what can we do? What can designers actually do to bring a sustainable long term effect? Not just to improve the ecological situation but also the lifes of citicens and the economy.
Those are just a few questions that pushed me and my fellow colleagues Alexander Keil and Steffen Weiss to take on this project.
